Since its creation in 1934, when course designers Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts invited their closest friends, the Masters Tournament has been thrilling spectators and producing high-quality champions.
The tournament takes place every year at the famed Augusta National Golf Club, arguably the course every golfer wants to play most in their lifetime. In 1949 the concept of the Green Jacket was introduced and the world’s finest have battled it out every springtime with the hope of being crowned the Masters Champion come Sunday evening. In fact, a common phrase is that “the Masters doesn’t start until the back nine on Sunday,” and for most years, this has certainly been true.
The 79th edition of the tournament will take place this year in early April. The date is fast approaching, and it seems as suitable a time as ever to mark some of the greatest Masters that have ever been played.
To narrow this down to just 5 is an incredibly tough task. There have been so many great Masters in the tournament’s history that only selecting 5 means we will undoubtedly leave some people disappointed.
In chronological order here are our five favourites, let us know if you agree or if you have a different opinion.
Enjoy!
