The 2008 US Open – Tiger Woods Wins on One Leg

At the first ever U.S. Open held at Torrey Pines, Woods sealed a historic victory on his home course—and even more remarkably on just the one leg. Woods held a one-stroke lead after 54 holes but after four days and 72 holes he was tied with Mediate at one-under par. Just to get into a Monday play-off with Mediate, Tiger holed an incredible putt across the 18th green for birdie resulting in some of the biggest celebrations ever seen from the 14 time Major Champion.

During the 18-hole Monday playoff, Woods took a three-stroke lead through 10 holes, but found himself one shot behind heading to the 18th hole after a birdie run by Rocco. Woods made a dramatic birdie on the par-5 18th to force yet another playoff, and eventually won his 14th major championship with a par on the first sudden-death playoff hole.

Two days later, Woods revealed the extent of his injury and that he would miss the remainder of the season to have knee surgery.
