Jack Nicklaus’ Putter Throw

On championship Sunday in 1970 Doug Sanders dressed head to toe in pink looked anything but pretty as he dribbled his 3ft putt to win wide of the hole. That miss resulted in a play-off against Jack Nicklaus and the following day when the pair returned to the final green it was Nicklaus who had a putt to win.

The golden bear rolled it in and jubilantly tossed his putter into the air in celebration, with it narrowly missing Sanders as it landed. No physical damage was done but that Sunday afternoon miss was sure to give Sanders nightmares for years to come.
