Tiger arrived at St Andrews in 2000 having won the 3 out of the 4 Major Championships and fresh of an incredible 15 shot victory in the US Open at Pebble Beach. He was in the form of his life and it seemed a formality that the American would be collecting the trophy on Sunday afternoon.
The predictions proved correct – as the sun shone for four days Tiger put on an exhibition of golf, never once finding one of the 100+ bunkers on the course and eventually winning by eight shots on 19 under par. His win marked the completion of the career grand slam and at just 24 years old Woods was the youngest ever player to do so.
