The great Seve Ballesteros has become a symbol for everything that is to be admired about European golf and there is no more iconic image of the flamboyant Spaniard than him fist-pumping the putt that won him the 1984 Open.
Ballesteros had been involved in a neck and neck battle with Tom Watson on the Sunday Afternoon and as the American made a bogey on the 17th, Seve knew he could consolidate the win by making a three at the last. His putt crept in the side door and as the crowd cheered Seve grinned from ear to ear and raised his fist to the sky. A celebration that many golfers lucky enough to play the Old Course do their best to impersonate.
